A multi-national civil rights organization, also known as the American Islamic Congress, was inspired by a cartoon. A cartoon years has been written about Martin Luther King, Jr. to celebrate his life, ideas and achievements. The American Islamic Congress had the comic book translated into Arabic so that the peoples of the Middle East could read. The director of the American Islamic Congress’s North African Dalia Ziada, was in charge of translating the comic from English into Arabic. They distributed the comic to more than 2,000 people across the Middle East. The comic book written about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. were expressed during the civil rights movement in the 1950s. The cartoon, entitled “History of Montgomery,” describes the events that took place during the bus boycott in Montgomery. Another well-known activist, Rosa Parks, also participated in the bus boycott. The Montgomery Bus Boycott had an eternal impact on our society. This was a major step to end segregation and was the sole reason for terminating policies segregation in public transit. Not only did the bus boycott written in our books history, but it was also made into a comic book. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. encouraged and practiced non-violent resistance. This is the hope for the Middle East by the American Islamic Congress. Translating and republishing “History of Montgomery,” is an act of nonviolent resistance. They show the violent groups and people know that another way of life is possible and the freedom to express their appreciation for the civil rights movement. Teaching a new way of life that goes against many leaders in the Middle East would approve. The American Islamic Congress is a group of civil rights movement. Their civil rights movements unfolding in the Middle East. The group has many young people to promote love, moderation, religious tolerance, women’s rights, freedom of expression, and preservation of different cultures. Using comics is a medium, they are promoting their movement. Montgomery’s story in many ways what Parallels Middle East crosses with terrorism. They hope that people who read comics learn from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr thoughts and ideas on equality. Comics are making their mark in our history. They promote literacy, change, tolerance, and to conquer good over evil. Perhaps in the near future we will be reading comic books on peace in the Middle East as a direct result of the 2000 Arab-language copies of “The Montgomery Story,” being distributed.
