I marched in solidarity with the immigrant community on May 1, 2006. I have never been in the company of such brave, driven and hard working people. I know what you mean, but at the same time, the issue isn’t “5 different languages” — it’s one specific language: Spanish. Spanish is the 2nd most spoken language in the U.S. by a large margin, and, unlike other countries (i.e. in Europe, Asia, etc), most US citizens grow up only learning one language whereas elsewhere they learn 2 or 3 [from elementary school, not merely as a high school elective]. Every year there are more and more Spanish speakers, so I’m just saying, we can’t ignore it.

It’s not an official language, but it IS the dominant language. That’s why everything is in English. Sure, some people speak different languages at home, but wouldn’t it be easier for the immigrants to learn English than to have people who already speak English learn 5 different languages? (ah, I hope you know what I mean)
But America doesn’t even have an official language ((English is NOT an official language)). So why is it so important to people that our anthem be solely in English? Demographics are changing; respect it.
My ancestors are native Americans. They were killed by white Europeans; their songs and anthems and dignity were cleansed from this land. So under your logic, we shouldn’t be singing an English anthem anyway — we should be singing native songs.
